With a background in Biochemistry, Nanotherapeutics and Cancer Research the last 20 years, Dr. Marianna was focusing in developing novel cancer therapeutics and biomaterials such as collagen for regenerative medicine. In 2018 and after a long and unfair battle with cancer her younger sister Magdaline lost the fight by ovarian cancer.
For two years, we were battling not only for survival but also to improve Magdaline’s quality of life. From little things such as finding the right products that her sensitive skin would tolerate; to the extreme case when we had to cater for her severe dermatitis (post-radiation treatment) and chemotherapy extravasation (after spending long hours with an IV into her arm).
So when the disease knocked our family door, we were unprepared, and it was then that in shock I realised the non-existent solutions for the oncology patients. There was a gap between the patient, the doctors and the people behind the formulation of these much-needed solutions, the biologists.
Dr Marianna shares.
A few months later, Dr Marianna decided that she had to act, but that was a fight she did not want to give alone. She discovered Dr Anna by luck.
